The Government of Ghana has announced a relief package totalling GH¢150,000 for each family that lost a loved one in the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Stadium during a recruitment screening exercise by the Ghan Armed Forces.

The announcement was made on Monday, December 1, 2025, when families of the victims paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, at the Ministry’s premises in Accra.

According to an official statement posted by the Ministry of Interior on its social media page, each affected family will receive GH¢50,000 to defray funeral expenses and an additional GH¢100,000 as compensation.

Speaking to the bereaved families, Brogya Genfi extended the government’s deepest condolences and assured them of continuous support during this difficult period.

He further revealed that immediate family members, particularly siblings of the deceased, will be given priority for replacement opportunities in the ongoing recruitment.

Where no qualified immediate family member is available, the families have been authorised to nominate a suitable candidate from the extended family.

The Deputy Minister also disclosed that injured victims who are currently receiving medical care will be allowed to join their colleagues on the training grounds upon full recovery.

Additionally, the Ministry of Defence is collaborating with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to roll out special support programmes for children left behind by the deceased recruits.

The tragic incident occurred on November 12, 2025, when thousands of youth turned up at the El-Wak Stadium in response to a nationwide recruitment screening exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces, resulting in a deadly stampede that claimed six lives and left many others injured.
