The Ghana Scholarships Authority has announced that the government has released first-quarter funds to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom to commence the payment of outstanding scholarship arrears owed to Ghanaian students studying in the UK.

According to the Authority, the release of funds is part of concerted efforts to settle delays in the payment of stipends and tuition fees that have affected several beneficiaries pursuing various academic programmes across institutions in the United Kingdom.

In a statement signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Scholarships Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, and issued on Thursday, April 16, the Authority acknowledged the concerns raised by affected students and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the delays.

The statement expressed regret over the situation and assured beneficiaries that concrete steps are being taken to restore normal payment schedules and provide much-needed relief.

“The funds released are intended to cover the financial obligations of beneficiaries and ensure continuity in their academic programmes,” the Authority noted.

It added that the disbursed funds will undergo the necessary administrative and public financial management processes before being credited to the students’ accounts in the shortest possible time.

The Ghana Scholarships Authority further stated that the government remains committed to supporting the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad and is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure prompt processing of all outstanding payments, while putting measures in place to prevent similar delays in the future.

The Authority also reiterated its commitment to strengthening internal systems to improve efficiency in scholarship administration and guarantee timely release of funds going forward.

Beneficiaries have been urged to remain calm and continue with their studies as efforts are intensified to resolve all outstanding obligations.
