The Ministry of the Interior has released funds to fully settle outstanding rent allowance arrears for 2025 owed to personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service.
In an official statement issued by its Public Affairs and Communications Unit on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Ministry confirmed that the payment covers all eligible officers across the three services who were affected by the earlier delays.
“The Ministry of the Interior wishes to inform the public, particularly personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service, that funds have been released to settle the 2025 rent allowance arrears,” the statement read.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to the affected officers for their patience and understanding during the period it took to resolve the payment issues. It acknowledged the legitimate concerns raised about the delays and assured personnel that concrete measures have been put in place to prevent any future occurrences.
As part of ongoing reforms to improve efficiency and transparency in the payment of allowances, the Ministry announced that the rent allowance payment system has now been fully mechanised.
“Effective March 2026, rent allowances for personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service will be processed and paid together with their monthly salaries,” the statement explained.
This new arrangement is expected to eliminate administrative bottlenecks, streamline processes, and significantly reduce the likelihood of future delays in the disbursement of rent allowances.
The integration of rent allowances into the regular payroll system forms part of efforts by the Ministry to strengthen financial management practices and improve overall welfare conditions for personnel in the security services under its supervision.
The Ministry reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of officers serving in these critical institutions and pledged to maintain close collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely and consistent payment of all entitlements going forward.
