A new technology-driven solution aimed at tackling Ghana’s persistent plastic waste and sanitation challenges was officially launched on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Accra.
The Greengo-Hub Official Launch and Fundraising Event took place at Mamphey Hall, GIMPA GreenHill Campus, under the theme: “Powering the Circular Economy with Smart Technology – Incentivizing Segregation at Source.”
The initiative, developed by HYVE Management Systems (HMS) in partnership with the Solid Waste Association of Ghana (SWAGH), introduces a mobile application that connects recyclable waste generators with collectors. Waste generators stand to earn cash tokens for properly segregating their recyclable waste.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Edwin D. Akuffo, CEO and Founder of HYVE Management Systems, explained that the app is designed to drive efficiency across the entire waste management value chain.
“Today, we are launching a fundraising for Greengo-Hub, which is a mobile application that connects recyclable waste collectors with waste generators in exchange for a cash token,” he said.
Mr. Akuffo disclosed that the company is seeking a baseline budget of GH¢5 million to support pilot deployment, public education campaigns, and eventual nationwide rollout.
The pilot will begin in selected gated communities in partnership with the Ghana Real Estate Agency Association.
He urged Ghanaians to download the “Gringo Hub Generator App” and “Gringo Hub Aggregator App” from the Google Play Store to participate in the initiative.
The event was chaired by Nana Ama Antwi, Executive Secretary of the Environmental Service Providers Association, with key support from Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovation, and Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority.
Special Guest of Honour was Nii Ayii Bontte II, Gbese Mantse and Adonte of the Ga State.
