Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated his willingness to submit himself to any investigation into allegations of extortion against him.
His comments come amid allegations of extortion and similar conduct levelled against him by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
During Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated that he was fully prepared to cooperate with any investigation if the allegations were formally reported to the appropriate authorities.
He challenged those who have accused him of extortion to report the matter to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative agency.
“If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he stated.
However, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he had already chosen to address the matter through lawful channels following the allegations against him.
He disclosed that he had initiated legal proceedings in two separate cases involving individuals and media organisations over the allegations.
The first suit, GT 1029/2026, was filed at the Accra High Court by Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin against Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and the Multimedia Group Limited.
The second suit, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court against Eric Agjei and Peace FM.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader expressed confidence that the courts would make the appropriate determination on the matters.
He also warned against what he described as unacceptable lines being crossed in political discourse.
“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.
He said his decision to submit himself to the legal process amounted to taking the “high moral ground” in the face of the allegations.
Moreover, he defended his record as Minority Leader, saying he had served with integrity, dedication and a clear conscience. He maintained that he had remained committed to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
