“Include Social Media into curriculum” – Kobby kyei advises ahead of his Shine Summit

Renowned Ghanaian Blogger, Augustus Koranteng Kyei, popularly known as Kobby Kyei has suggested for the need to include social media into our education curriculum in an interview on his Shine Summit slated for tomorrow, 2 June.

In a interview granted on Peace Fm, the blogger lamented the inactive advance made towards social media by educationists in Ghana.

He therefore gave a clarion call on educationists in Ghana to include social media into the curriculum and shouldn’t sit aloof for the Western World to set the pace before they replicate it in our education system.

“The students are on social media and we are waiting for the western world to start before we follow suit . Always Africans want the Europeans to start a conversation before we join”

The interview was granted in view of his debut Shine Summit slated for 2, June 2023 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

The Shine Summit is a digital summit powered by Global Ovations which seeks to imbibe in the youth the positive impact of Social media, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. With speakers equipped with experience in their fields, the occasion is tipped to be a buffet of Knowledge.

He teased audiences expectations of the summit by stating it was going to focus on brand positioning, drawing financial gains from your social media handles, and how to promote your craft or venture as an Entrepreneur, musician, Institution, etc.

The speakers for the summit are:

1. Bola Ray, CEO of EIB Network and media personality as well as anentrepreneur in Ghana.

2. Tommy Forson, a veteran Broadcaster, known as the King of Country Music and founder of Rabodef Radio Academy.

3. Oheneyere Gifty Aunty, Feminist, Veteran Broadcaster and host of The Stand Point.

4. Portia Gabor, media personality and GJA’s Journalist of the year 2022.

5. Kobby Kyei, Blogger and Philanthropist

8. Bernard Kafui Sokpoe

9. Anthony Dzamefe of Caveman watches10. Nana Ama Mcbrown, Actress, TV personality

He commented on the youth using their mobile phones smartly to position themselves well because people follow them for a reason.
He cited how ordering stuffs online saw a hike during the covid era due to social media as well as Pastors deploying Facebook for their services after many had bad-mouthed the app in it’s inception.

“Your smartphone will outsmart you if you don’t know the use of the smartphone. Attending the shine summit, the speakers will educate you on how to build a personal brand for yourself with your social media handles. Brand positioning. People follow you for a reason ao you need to position yourself very well”

In a build up to this conversation, the blogger encouraged the youth to explore the opportunities that lie in the World with their God-given talents rather than sit and complain about

the government’s incompetence.

“Coming from my village, I had one thing in mind “Polish till you shine” I realized words are very powerful hence everywhere I went I said polish “till you shine” when I started blogging I knew I had a role to play in building Ghana with whichever role I have been given from God. Everyone came to this world endowed with something from God. Indeed the government has not played his role fully, but individually what can you help to build the nation with what God endowed you with.”

He explained the reason behind the summit and likened social media following to a chief and his community members.

“Instead of using my platfotm to defame people, I will rather use my social media platform to build and  impact society. Social media is like a community. If a million people follow you, it’s akin to a million people under the leadership of a chief. Whatever the chief does, they replicate it. Hence my followers are with me for a reason either good or bad. After attending programs and going to institutions to preach about social media,  I realized i have to bring young people together. Hence I coined the Shine summit out of my “Polish till shine”. He said.
