Interior Minister orders investigation into alleged assassination attempts on Special Prosecutor

The Ministry of the Interior has directed an immediate full-scale investigation into claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts while in office.

A statement issued by the Ministry on Monday, December 8, 2025, said the probe was triggered by allegations made by the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Mr Samuel Appiah Darko, during an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, December 6.

Mr Appiah Darko claimed that Mr Agyebeng had survived two assassination attempts and that he himself was once handcuffed and beaten by 17 police officers.

The Ministry described the allegations as carrying serious security implications that could undermine the government’s intensified anti-corruption drive if substantiated.

According to the Ministry, preliminary checks however, revealed that the alleged assassination attempts on the Special Prosecutor occurred before 2025 and that no formal report of any such threat had ever been lodged with the Ghana Police Service or any state security agency.

Despite the absence of prior records, Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has ordered a comprehensive investigation into both the claimed assassination attempts on Mr Agyebeng and the alleged assault on Mr Appiah Darko, stressing that “crime does not expire.”

The Ministry assured the public of updates on the outcome of the probe and any subsequent actions, while reaffirming government’s commitment to protecting the lives of all citizens, especially personnel of accountability institutions, so they can discharge their duties without fear.
