The Eastern South Police Command has apprehended a man, Coffie Agyemang, for allegedly trying to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million amid reported financial hardships.
The suspect, who resides in Kwamang within the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, was nabbed following a tip-off received by the Akwatia police. Community members revealed that Agyemang had shared his intentions with a friend, prompting the friend to alert authorities.
In response, police launched a surveillance operation and undercover officers posed as interested buyers. Negotiations reportedly culminated in an agreement for GH¢1 million, after which the suspect arrived at a pre-arranged location with the child, leading to his immediate arrest.
Further claims under investigation include suggestions that the child was intended for ritual sacrifice, with the body to be returned to the suspect to simulate a murder elsewhere. These allegations are being probed as part of the case.
DSP David Fianko Okyere, Public Relations Officer for the Eastern South Police Command, confirmed the arrest and stated that thorough investigations are in progress to uncover all details surrounding the incident.
The young child has been taken into protective custody while the probe continues, ensuring his safety amid the unfolding events.
