Officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have conducted a search at the residence of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of the sale of government-funded overseas scholarships.
This development was confirmed by lawyers representing Mr. Nkansah. According to the legal team, the search was carried out following comments made by the former NEIP boss during a radio discussion, where he alleged that individuals were making payments to secure scholarships abroad.
In an interview with Citi News, lead counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah stated that the officers involved in the search were unable to produce a warrant when requested by those present.
The search forms part of a probe initiated after President John Dramani Mahama directed the NIB to investigate the claims. Mr. Nkansah had earlier been invited by the intelligence agency to assist with the investigations.
His lawyers have clarified that Mr. Nkansah was not arrested, countering reports and social media circulation suggesting otherwise. They emphasized that he voluntarily appeared before the NIB and cooperated fully by providing relevant information concerning the alleged sale of scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat.
The engagement followed a presidential directive issued in response to Mr. Nkansah’s statements on Sompa 106.5 FM, during which he claimed that payments were being made to obtain state-sponsored opportunities to study abroad.
The allegations have raised significant public concerns regarding transparency and equity in the allocation of government-funded educational scholarships.
In a statement dated February 3, 2026, the Office of the President described the claims as “serious and of grave public concern,” instructing the NIB to verify the allegations, identify any individuals involved, and submit its findings directly to the President for appropriate action.
The legal team reiterated that Mr. Nkansah’s cooperation with the NIB aligns with this directive and is intended to support the investigation by supplying all necessary details.
