The Ghana Police Service has arrested four field officers of Bills Micro-Credit Limited following a viral confrontation with a woman at Ashongman Estate.
The arrests follow a video that circulated extensively on social media, showing some officers of the company confronting a woman who was carrying a baby. Officers were reportedly heard arguing with her over an alleged failure to repay a GH¢300 loan.
In the video, one of the officers is seen collecting the woman’s phone. When she attempted to recover it while still holding the baby, she fell to the ground.
However, the company had already announced that the officers captured in the viral video had been suspended and handed over to the police for further investigation.
In an official statement issued on March 15, 2026, by the Accra Regional Police Command, it was stated that the Kwabenya District Police Command has started investigations into an alleged assault incident at Ashongman Estate involving officials of the microcredit company.
The statement reveals that Hagar Emaser, 42, reported to the police on March 13 that four men from the company visited her residence to demand repayment of a loan and allegedly assaulted her during the encounter.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday, March 15, and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. They have been identified as Denis Wornyo, 38; Albert Amarh, 40; Ebenezer Amartei, 23; and Atsu Lawson, 27.
The company earlier condemned the incident and indicated that it had begun internal inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The Accra Regional Police Command has appealed to victims of assault and other criminal acts to report such incidents to the police for prompt investigation.
Police also advised individuals with grievances relating to loan transactions or other civil matters to pursue lawful and peaceful means of resolving them.
