The solicitor for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), Cephas Boyuo, has stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta contrary to public perception was disservice to the operations of the revenue assurance company.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, November, 7, 2025, Boyuo claimed that SML encountered severe financial difficulties in the initial months of the contract due to prolonged payment delays.
“If there is one person who has been a disservice to SML, it is Ofori-Atta. This contract is a performance-based contract. For 10 months from the inception of SML, they were never paid,” he said.
He explained that mandatory audits were required before any payments could be processed, which exacerbated the delays.
Additionally, Boyuo alleged that Ofori-Atta declined to approve exemptions for equipment imported by SML, compelling the company to shoulder the extra expenses.
“Every equipment that SML brought in, Ken Ofori-Atta refused to give SML exemption. SML paid for it. So please it is untrue that Ken Ofori-Atta has interest in SML. SML is independent. It is wholly for Evans Adusei,” he added.
His statement comes on the back of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for the cancellation of the contract between the state and SML which has been accused of failing to deliver on its contract terms by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
According to the OSP which has declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice, the former minister for finance was a beneficial promoter of SML.
