Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has described the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a “complete scam” and urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a gathering of party supporters in Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North Region on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Afenyo-Markin called for cohesion, discipline and renewed commitment among party members as the NPP prepares for the next electoral contest.
He questioned the performance of the NDC government, arguing that the party had failed to fulfil the promises it made to Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign.
“We should ask ourselves, is the NDC delivering on its promises? The NDC is a complete scam. They are 419 people. They come to you and lie to you and when you give them power, they do nothing.
“But they can only achieve that if we ourselves are divided. So today, in Sefwi-Wiawso, I speak to the entire region on behalf of the flagbearer, on behalf of Parliament, on behalf of all the elders of the party and plead with you to unite,” he said.
The Minority Leader stressed that unity within the opposition party would be crucial to its chances of returning to power in 2028.
He also urged supporters to remain vigilant and actively engage in political discussions within their communities, while critically assessing the performance of the ruling administration.
