Parliament will today, Monday, August 24, 2026, reconvene for a special sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin to consider urgent parliamentary business.
The House is expected to sit from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, during the recall period.
Among the key matters expected to come before Parliament are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
The recall comes less than a month after Parliament adjourned on July 31, 2026.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances require Parliament to resume.
The special sitting is intended to enable Members of Parliament to deliberate on matters deemed too urgent to wait until the House’s next scheduled sitting.
