Two suspected armed robbers were fatally shot by police in a fierce exchange of gunfire near Manso Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region on December 31, 2025.

The operation, led by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, was triggered by intelligence indicating that a gang of robbers had assembled along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch to target commuters.

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers were met with gunfire from the suspects, who attempted to flee. The officers returned fire, hitting two of the robbers.

The injured suspects were rushed to the Bekwai Government Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Two other members of the gang, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, escaped into the bush.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent BB cartridges, a black bag containing sixteen live cartridges, and a black Toyota Voxy vehicle bearing registration number AS 6412–25.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Umaru, 28, and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, 26.

Briefing journalists, Deputy Commander of the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, ACP Cephas Arthur, revealed that the suspects had confessed to involvement in several high-profile robberies across the country.

These include the Mpohor Gold Robbery, where gold worth approximately 3.2 million dollars was stolen; the Nyinahini Highway Robbery, which resulted in the death of a Toyota Voxy driver; and the Cocoa Shed Robbery at Sefwi.

Police investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects and other accomplices linked to the gang.
