The Ashanti North Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the conduct of a police officer captured in a viral video allegedly kicking a complainant’s mobile phone during an altercation at the Akomadan Police Station.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 5, 2026, the Regional Command said it had taken notice of the viral footage depicting the alleged misconduct and had commenced investigations into the incident.

According to the Police, the officer involved has been identified and inquiries are underway to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, which reportedly occurred on July 3, 2026.

“The Police officer involved has been identified and investigation has commenced to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.

The Command assured the public that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability.

It further indicated that updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The investigation follows the circulation of a viral video in which a complainant accused the police officer of neglecting her duties when he visited the Akomadan Police Station to lodge an official complaint.

According to the complainant, he arrived at the station and found the officer seated at the front desk and focused on her mobile phone rather than attending to him. He claimed he began recording the interaction after feeling ignored.

He further alleged that the officer became agitated after noticing she was being recorded and ordered him to stop filming.

The complainant also claimed that the officer kicked his mobile phone to the ground during the confrontation and threatened to hit him with a stone.

The video has since generated widespread public reaction on social media, with many users calling for a thorough investigation into the officer’s conduct and urging the Ghana Police Service to uphold professional standards in its engagement with the public.
