The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested 25 suspects and rescued 295 victims in a major operation targeting an alleged human trafficking and recruitment scam in the Ashanti Region.
Officials reportedly rounded up a total of 320 individuals during raids at separate locations in Kenyasi in the Kwabre East Municipality and Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre South District.
After screening, 295 were identified as victims who had been lured from various parts of the country under false promises of employment, educational opportunities, and overseas travel, while being falsely presented as offers from QNET.
The victims were reportedly camped at the two locations by their recruiters, who posed as representatives of the networking company.
Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at EOCO, Staff Officer Dominic Mensah, confirmed that arrangements are underway to provide shelter for the victims and facilitate their reintegration with their families.
Meanwhile, Head of Compliance at QNET, Theodocia Naana Bennieh Quartey, expressed concern over the persistent misuse of the company’s name in fraudulent schemes.
She stated that QNET is intensifying collaboration with security agencies to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in such illegal activities.
