The Ghana Police Service has arrested three alleged suspects in connection with the shooting incident on a contentious piece of land in Accra’s Zammrama Line.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 6, 2022, the police service revealed that it had in custody Sergeant Isaac Abbey, a soldier, and two others, Godfred Amegbor and Darko Ofei, the alleged perpetrators of the above offense.

“Police have arrested and taken into custody, a soldier, Sergeant Isaac Abbey, and two other persons, Godfred Amegbor and Ofei Darko for their alleged involvement in a shooting incident on a disputed piece of land at Zammrama Line, a suburb of Accra on June 4, 2022.” A portion of the release disclosed this.

According to a press release signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, head of the public affairs unit of the Ghana Police Service, the other two suspects, Amegbor and Darko, who posed as military personnel, were with Sergeant Isaac Abbey when he allegedly shot and injured four citizens, Ali Ashillely, Akim Zibo, Salam Musah, and Faisal Khalid Azumah.

The two ‘masqueraded military personnels’ were also injured and were taken to the Korlebu teaching hospital alongside the four victims.

“Suspect Sergeant Isaac Abbey allegedly shot and injured four people on the said piece of land. The victims, Ali Ashillely, Akim Zibo, Salam Musah, and Faisal Khalid Azumah who sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds were sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.”

“Two of the arrested persons suspects Godfred Amegbor and Ofei Darko who were posing as soldiers also sustained some injuries and were sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment. In their statements to the Police, the two claimed to be military personnel but the claim has not been established by our investigations.” The police statements read.

As a result, the police promised that the suspects would be subjected to the due process of law following their investigations. They thanked the public once more for its support of the police force.
