The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous joint operations in the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to apprehend suspects involved in recent violent attacks on anti-illegal mining (anti-galamsey) officials.

The intelligence-led swoops, which commenced at dawn on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, are targeting specific locations in the Ashanti Region, particularly Dadieso and Anwona; in the Volta Region at Ehi; and in the Ahafo Region at Hwediem, Kenyasi, Guaso, and Mahani.

According to a joint press release issued on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the operations aim to arrest identified persons involved in recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariats (NAIMOS) team, some police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.

“The operations which started at dawn today, Wednesday 12 November 2025 at all the locations aim at arresting identified persons involved in the recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team, some Police officers and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) including journalists.

“The Armed Forces and the Police Service warn that any individual or group that attempts to obstruct the operations of any of the security services in their anti-galamsey operations or in the performance of any other lawful duty, will face the full force of the law,” the release stated.

Authorities assured the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities.

The release, encouraged residents to remain calm and go about their regular duties without fear or panic.

The security services also commended civil society groups, the media, and individuals for their massive support against the uncombed civil attacks and disruptions of the activities of the security forces in their anti-condemnation drive, and counted on the continued cooperation of the general public.

This deployment comes amid heightened government efforts to curb galamsey, which has been declared a national emergency.
