Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has summoned Parliament to sit on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, while the House remains on recess.
According to a notice issued by the Office of the Speaker and dated September 24, Parliament is expected to commence sitting at 12 noon at Parliament House in Accra.
The summons was issued pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
The latest recall comes weeks after Parliament was recalled from its recess for a special sitting from August 24 to 28 to transact urgent parliamentary business. The August recall followed the House’s adjournment sine die on July 31, 2026.
During that special sitting, the Appointments Committee vetted two ministerial nominees and three nominees for appointment to the Supreme Court. The nominees included Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for ministerial positions, as well as Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante and private legal practitioner Anthony Forson Jr. for the Supreme Court.
Parliament subsequently approved the three Supreme Court nominees following a contentious vetting process that saw the Minority Caucus boycott the proceedings.
The latest notice does not state the specific urgent business for which Parliament has been summoned to sit on September 29.
