Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has applauded President Mahama for fulfilling his promise to oppose any act of corruption within his cabinet through the introduction of a code of conduct to be adhered to by all state officials.
President John Dramani Mahama announced his plans to implement a strict code of conduct in his 120 Day social contract with Ghanaians shared in 2024. “This code represents a bold declaration of the standards we must uphold servants of the public… Let me be clear, this document is not a ceremonial one it is a living and enforceable framework that outlines what is expected of every individual appointed under this administration.” President Mahama explained at the launch held today, Monday, May 5, 2025 at the Office of the President
Ablakwa, in a post on X, described the introduction of this code of conduct as good news for Ghana and an objective that has been upheld since the NDC’s time in opposition in years past. “I am absolutely delighted that our crusade in opposition has not been abandoned and that we are keeping faith with the Ghanaian people and our conscience.”
He noted that the new code of conduct is well aligned with the Private Member’s Bill he pledged to sponsor in May 2024. The minister outlined the goals of the bill, which, if passed into law, would close legal loopholes that have allowed such acquisitions, which he believes is a major conflict of interest and abuse of power.
“This new Code of Conduct gives further impetus to my Private Member’s Bill currently in Parliament, seeking to ban politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets. State capture is dead! God bless President Mahama,” he stated.
