Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has launched an attack on the government for what he describes as reckless and contradictory spending priorities.
In a social media post on Friday, December 12, 2025, the Assin South MP accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration of wasting millions of cedis on by-elections and polling station reruns while simultaneously begging foreign governments for basic equipment to retool national security agencies.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour cited specific examples, noting that the state spent GH¢38.6 million in a single day on the recent Akwatia by-election and another GH¢1 million on a limited rerun in Ablekuma.
He further condemned the government’s plan to “blow more millions” on what he called a “needless rerun” in the Kpandai constituency, despite the legitimately elected MP still being alive and able to serve.
“It is shameful this same government goes begging for GH¢1.77 million worth of equipment from Germany,” he wrote, questioning why the nation should “waste millions on by-elections and reruns and then go begging to retool your security sector.”
The outspoken MP also slammed the 2026 Budget for allocating zero capital expenditure to the Ghana Immigration Service, describing it as a dangerous neglect of frontline security institutions.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour called on the government to immediately review its priorities, insisting that strengthening national security must take precedence over “avoidable and needless electoral expenditures.”
