Wendy Shay’s Murrda visuals stirs criticism over the lyrical content

Rufftown record artiste, Wendy Asiamah Addo, also known by the stage name, Wendy Shay, has received backlash on social media after posting a teaser of her ‘Murrda’ video, which comes off her Enigma EP, in Stuttgart, Germany. 

The Survivor hitmaker posted a low-budget visuals of the song on her social media handles three days ago in a Police Lacoste, taking on a Jason Tatham look in the video, ready for action. 

The lyrical content has stirred criticism as it evokes violence. The lyrics are deemed not advisable by netizens, as we have witnessed recent killings by partners due to cheating or other matters. 

“See me the things I dey do for you,me I go fit to kill for you. 

I wrote this song for you dedicate all to you

Murrda, Murrda if you leave me boy ego be Murda 

gun shot Ina your head if you leave me boy ego be murrda” The lyrics read. 

Last week, on June 17, a 23 year old lady was found dead by Eastern Regional Police in a rented apartment after she was murdered by her boyfriend at Trom in the Eastern Region. 

Prior to that, an Nsutam Secondary Technical School female student was murdered by her boyfriend in his barbershop.

This has drawn the attention of Ghanaians to the song and given a critique of the song considering the current happenings. 

Twilight tweeted, “I like Wendy Shay but i’m honestly disappointed in the content and context of this video. We are in a season where people are KiIIing their partners and this song seems to promote it. This is not it”

Kobby Founda also tweeted: “Wendy Shay promoting crimes in her music video but the media is quiet about it because she get Coca Cola body. Smh”

Ruf_ayi also tweeted, “Wendy Shay has never promoted anything better. See say she dey promote murder in her unreleased song. Season wey people dey k!ll their partners no, edey mean say she dey support that act. I’m disappointed in her.

Wendy Shay released her Enigma EP which has a collection of seven tracks including Survivor, Murrda,Heaven which portrays Woman Power.
