One member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation and Monitoring System (NAIMOS) Task Force has been confirmed dead, with three others seriously injured, following a tragic road accident in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident, which occurred earlier on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, was confirmed in a statement issued Wednesday evening by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
In his statement, the Regional Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased officer, describing the loss as one felt deeply by the entire region.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult moment. Their loss is a loss to the region, and we stand with them in prayer and solidarity,” Dr. Amoakohene said.
He also wished the three injured officers a speedy and full recovery, assuring that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and Obuasi Municipal authorities are working closely with relevant agencies to ensure the victims receive the best medical care.
“The Regional Security Council and the Obuasi Municipal authorities are coordinating with the appropriate agencies to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical attention,” he added.
Dr. Amoakohene further disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
“The matter is being investigated to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to guide the necessary interventions,” he stated.
He emphasised that the safety and well-being of personnel engaged in national assignments, particularly the fight against illegal mining, remain a top priority for the region.
The Ashanti Regional Minister concluded by reiterating the region’s solidarity with the affected officers, their families, and the entire NAIMOS team during this difficult period.
The NAIMOS Task Force was established as part of government’s intensified efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey) and protect Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves.
