48 Nigerians arrested at Dawhenya for alleged cybercrime activities

In a major intelligence-led operation, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana, in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, has arrested 48 suspected cybercriminals believed to be Nigerian nationals in the Dawhenya area of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

The nighttime raid targeted a syndicate allegedly involved in various cyber-related crimes, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.

Preliminary interrogations indicate that the 48 suspects comprise 46 males and two females, all believed to be Nigerian nationals.

During the operation, authorities seized 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers, believed to have been used in the criminal activities.

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, announced the arrests in a post on Wednesday, December 23, 2025, describing the operation as a “surgical strike” against cybercrime syndicates.

“Once again, we have struck at the heart of cybercrime operations within our beloved Homeland,” the Minister stated.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to conducting intelligence-led operations to rid Ghana’s cyber ecosystem of criminals, adding that while the country welcomes legitimate enterprises, it will remain “a hostile domain for cyber criminals.”

The Minister commended the operatives for their professionalism and wished Ghanaians a “merry digital Christmas and a cyber crime free new year.”

This latest crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts by the CSA and security agencies to combat the rising threat of cybercrime in Ghana, which has seen several similar operations targeting foreign nationals involved in online fraud throughout 2025.
