The European Union (EU) has awarded 446 Ghanaians scholarships under the 2026 Erasmus+ Programme, offering recipients the opportunity to pursue higher education and academic exchanges at institutions across Europe.

According to a statement issued by the EU on Friday, July 24, 28 Ghanaians were selected under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme, with 14 receiving full scholarships to study at leading European universities. A further 418 students and staff were selected under the International Credit Mobility (ICM) programme, which supports short-term academic exchanges. The Erasmus+ Programme is the EU’s flagship initiative supporting education, training, youth and sports, with a focus on social inclusion, green and digital transitions, and youth participation in democracy and good governance.

Speaking at a pre-departure event organised by the EU in collaboration with the German International Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ghanaian-European Centre, the EU Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to educational mobility. He said the EU’s Global Gateway initiative continues to invest significantly in youth exchanges between Africa and Europe through Erasmus+ and related programmes. One of the beneficiaries, Derrick Kyei, who will pursue an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Sports Ethics and Integrity, described the scholarship as an opportunity to gain world-class knowledge and international exposure that he hopes will contribute to transforming Africa’s sports sector.
