The final funeral rites and burial of the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Naser Toure Mahama are scheduled for today, Monday, January 5, 2026.
A somber mood has enveloped the Ayawaso East constituency, particularly in areas like Nima, Kanda, and Mamobi, as family members, constituents, political figures, and mourners gather to pay their last respects to the late legislator.
The veteran National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
In adherence to Islamic traditions, which require burial within 24 hours where possible, the funeral arrangements have been expedited.

The body was released from the mortuary on Sunday evening following high-level interventions, including direct support from President John Dramani Mahama, to clear administrative processes quickly.
Speaking on the arrangements, Ayawaso North MP Yussif Jajah confirmed that the remains were brought home on Sunday night.
The funeral programme for today begins at 10:00 AM with Janazah (funeral) prayers at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office on the Kanda Highway, where the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is expected to lead the prayers, followed immediately by a procession to the Madina Cemetery for interment.
Mr. Jajah emphasised the significance of the event, noting the late MP’s deep community ties and the honour of having the Chief Imam officiate.
The late Naser Toure Mahama was widely regarded as a grassroots leader and bridge-builder, known for his humility, advocacy for urban renewal in Nima, and commitment to youth empowerment in Zongo communities.
His death has created a significant void in Parliament’s Minority caucus and among inner-city constituencies in Accra.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command is deploying personnel to manage expected heavy traffic on the Kanda Highway and routes leading to Nima-Mamobi. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes until mid-afternoon.
Thousands of mourners are expected to attend, reflecting the late MP’s popularity and legacy in the community he served for multiple terms.
