A spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy has clarified that the individuals responsible for the recent assault on staff members of the Ministry were personnel from the Ghana Police Service, and not officers from National Security as has been widely speculated.

In a statement issued by Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson for the Ministry, he revealed that the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

The attack occurred on Thursday, January 15, 2026, while the staff were commuting to work in one of the Ministry’s official buses. According to the statement, the perpetrators allegedly justified their actions by claiming that the Ministry staff had insulted them for reckless driving, a reason described as wholly indefensible and insufficient to warrant any form of violence or abuse of power.

“No citizen of this country should ever be subjected to such treatment, particularly at the hands of law enforcement officers who are mandated to protect lives and uphold the rule of law,” the statement emphasized.

According to the spokesperson, the Minister has called on the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and decisively to ensure accountability for those involved, deliver justice to the victims, and restore public confidence in the professionalism and discipline of the Service.

Backround

The1957News received exclusive footage showing some alleged National Security officers assaulting staff of the Ministry of Energy.

The incident is said to have occurred at Kasoa Amanfrom on the morning of Thursday, January 15, 2026.

According to an eyewitness account, some staff of the Energy Ministry, while traveling from Kasoa to the office on board an official bus, came across a pickup truck parked very close to the middle of the road, making it difficult for the Ministry’s staff bus to exit into the main road. Upon the bus exiting into the main road, a staff member on board the bus informed the driver of the pickup that he had parked wrongly. When the bus moved, the pickup allegedly followed and crossed the Ministry’s bus at top speed. The driver of the bus maneuvered but was crossed a second time. The video from the incident shows the occupants of the pickup truck, who have now been confirmed to be police officers, attacking some members of the Ministry through the window of the bus.

They are then seen forcing their way onto the bus and assaulting occupants of the bus.

According to a source at the Energy Ministry, the attackers, after assaulting three persons on the bus, including the driver, dragged one staff member off the bus and took him to an unknown location.
