The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has apprehended a notorious figure in the local drug trade during a targeted anti-narcotics operation in Budumburam and its surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.

The raid, conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, forms part of NACOC’s ongoing nationwide campaign to combat drug trafficking and abuse across the country.

During the operation, NACOC officials seized quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be associated with drug peddling activities.

A key highlight of the exercise was the arrest of 32-year-old Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.” Described by local opinion leaders as a prominent player in the illicit drug trade, Kotei had previously managed to evade capture despite being on NACOC’s radar.

According to NACOC, the suspect had been under surveillance by its intelligence team due to her involvement in various forms of drug trafficking. The Commission noted that it had received multiple complaints regarding the nefarious activities of suspects like Kotei, who are now in custody.

In a statement following the raid, NACOC reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating drug-related issues in Ghana, assuring the public of its commitment to making the nation drug-free.

The Commission further emphasized that all individuals arrested during the operation will be processed and brought before the courts in line with the law.
