Family reveals why former NPP parliamentary candidate stabbed wife in the US

The family of Gilda Nortey, wife of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has broken their silence on the shocking stabbing incident that occurred in the United States, attributing it to a heated domestic dispute over threats of divorce.

In an interview with Citi News, relatives of the victim detailed the events leading to the alleged attack, expressing their deep concern and demanding justice for Gilda.

David Gyapanin, uncle to Gilda Nortey, recounted the troubling sequence of events, describing how a minor argument escalated into violence.

“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way. My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. He agreed on condition that she would not mention his name,” Mr. Gyapanin said.

He added that Gilda, despite her injuries, managed to drive herself to the hospital where she works, using the car keys she had on her.

“Fortunately, she had the car key and managed to drive to the hospital where she works. She’s getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice,” he emphasized.

Mr. Gyapanin further stressed the family’s resolve to pursue justice, regardless of location.

“It happened in the States, and we want to believe that the laws there will be enforced fully. You can’t marry someone’s daughter, and just because she says she no longer wants the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the States, when he comes to Ghana, we will seek justice,” he said.

According to reports from the Lower Paxton Township Police in Pennsylvania, the incident took place around 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, along Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township. Police confirmed that the victim was transported to the hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition. They also assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, 41, of Harrisburg, has been arrested and faces serious charges, including attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Online court records show that Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. He is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026.
