High Court orders Kwame Bediako to pay US$14.9m UK judgement debt

The High Court (Commercial Division) in Accra has enforced a judgement from the High Court of England and Wales against businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, compelling him to pay over US$14.9 million in debt, plus accrued interest and costs, to UK-based Cola Holdings Limited.

The enforcement follows the registration of the foreign judgement in Ghana on May 20, 2025, after an application by Cola Holdings Limited. A notice detailing the court’s decision was published in the Daily Graphic on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

The original judgement was delivered by Deputy Master Sabic KC of the High Court of England and Wales on January 23, 2025, with subsequent variations made in March and April of the same year. Upon registration, the judgement became enforceable under Ghanaian law.

Under the order, Bediako is required to settle a principal judgement debt of US$14,928,314.70, along with interest at a rate of eight percent per annum from January 23, 2025, until full payment. As of December 23, 2025, the interest had accumulated to US$1,092,834.64.

The court also awarded GH₵15,000 in legal costs to Cola Holdings Limited.

Based on the prevailing Treasury exchange rate of GH₵16.15 to the US dollar, the total amount owed, including interest and costs, equates to approximately GH₵258.76 million. This figure is subject to further increases as interest continues to accrue daily until the debt is cleared.

Additionally, the court approved an order for substituted service of the judgement. This allows the documents to be served by posting copies at Bediako’s residence at 13 Avenue Lincoln, Osu; on the High Court notice board; and through a one-time publication in the Daily Graphic.
