The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, into police custody for allegedly publishing false news aimed at causing fear and panic.
Razzaq is accused of posting a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, in which he claimed that two military officers were plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
The court did not take the accused’s plea and ordered him to remain in custody until his next court appearance on February 9, 2026. The prosecution is being led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.
According to the prosecution’s facts, the complainant in the case is the Ghana Police Service.
On January 20, 2026, Razzaq allegedly published the video, naming Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers involved in the purported assassination plot.
He was subsequently arrested the following day, January 21, 2026, at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement to the police, Razzaq admitted to creating and posting the video but stated that he had never met the mentioned officers and did not know them personally.
He claimed the information stemmed from a post he had “chanced upon” on social media, which prompted him to make the publication. However, he was unable to direct investigators to the source of the alleged post.
