Supreme Court to deliver verdict on Kpandai re-run today

The Supreme Court is set to deliver its ruling today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, on an application challenging the annulment of the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai constituency, Northern Region.

The case, filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam, seeks to quash a Tamale High Court judgment that declared the election results null and void, ordering a re-run.

Matthew Nyindam is contesting the High Court’s jurisdiction in the matter, following a petition that led to the annulment.

The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the suspension of the planned re-run pending its decision.

The 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency, held on December 7, 2024, initially saw Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) declared the winner by the Electoral Commission with 27,947 votes, defeating Daniel Nsala Wakpal of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 24,213 votes.

Wakpal filed a petition at the Tamale High Court, alleging serious irregularities including inconsistencies in pink sheets from 41 polling stations and the unauthorized relocation of the collation center without notice to candidates.

The verdict, expected on Wednesday, could determine whether the re-run proceeds or if the original results are upheld.
