A driver’s mate at Kronum near Kumasi has gone into hiding after allegedly stabbing his colleague in the neck with a broken bottle during a heated argument over skin bleaching allegations.
According to a Daily Guide report, the suspect, identified only as Mallachy, is said to have used a broken Coca-Cola bottle to inflict life-threatening injuries on his friend and colleague, Gabriel Arhin, at Kronum Kyerease around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
According to a police statement from the Suame District Police Command, the incident occurred at a local beer bar where both men, who are friends and work as driver’s mates, had gone to drink.
“The suspect accused the victim of bleaching his skin, and the victim got offended and they both fought,” the police report stated.
Bystanders reportedly intervened and separated the two during the initial scuffle. However, Mallachy, still enraged and panting for breath, allegedly picked up a Coca-Cola bottle, broke it, and stabbed Arhin in the neck area.
The victim was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Accident and Emergency Ward, where he is currently on admission and responding to treatment.
The case was reported to the police by Kwadwo Oheme Williams, said to be the father of the victim. Police investigators subsequently visited the hospital, obtained a medical report form for endorsement by the attending doctor, and took a statement from Gabriel Arhin.
