The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, has announced the promotion of all members of the Police Royal Ladies, a special all-female unit in the Ghana Police Service named in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to their next ranks.
The decision comes in recognition of the unit’s outstanding performance and dedication during two historic parades mounted in honour of the Asantehene. The first guard of honour was held at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra on January 6, 2026, while the second took place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the first Akwasidae celebration of the year on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Addressing the gathering at the Manhyia Palace Akwasidae, IGP Yuhonu explained that the parades served as a gesture of profound appreciation from the Ghana Police Service for Otumfuo’s unprecedented visit to the national police headquarters.
“We have these ladies called Royal Ladies. We named them after Otumfuo. They have come to grace the occasion and to make the first of its kind in the Manhyia Palace, and also attended by many of our POMAB members here this afternoon,” he said.
The IGP further highlighted the unit’s exemplary conduct, noting that the promotions were a reward for their hard work and commitment to excellence.
“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have distinguished themselves and are only available to do anything possible to make Ghana proud, and for this being the first of its kind to honour Otumfuo at the National Police headquarters and also being the first of its kind to visit the Manhyia Palace, the police administration decided to promote them to the next rank,” Mr Yuhonu stated.
The Police Royal Ladies is a ceremonial all-female group established to honour the Asantehene and represent the Ghana Police Service at key traditional and national events.
