My client voluntarily reported to NIB – Ofosu Nkansah’s lawyer

Lawyers for Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), have dismissed reports suggesting that their client was arrested by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

In a statement, the legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, clarified that Mr. Nkansah voluntarily presented himself to the NIB to assist with ongoing investigations into allegations of irregularities in the award of government-funded overseas scholarships.

The clarification follows claims by Dzifa Gunu, CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, in a Facebook post, which suggested that Mr. Nkansah had been “picked up” by the NIB after allegedly ignoring earlier invitations to provide evidence supporting his claims.

According to the lawyers, Mr. Nkansah cooperated fully with investigators and appeared willingly in line with a presidential directive.

The probe was triggered by President John Dramani Mahama following comments made by Mr. Nkansah during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM. In the broadcast, he alleged that payments were being made to secure scholarships abroad, raising serious questions about transparency and fairness in the distribution of state-sponsored educational opportunities.

In a communication dated February 3, 2026, the Presidency described the allegations as “serious and of grave public concern.” The President directed the NIB to investigate the claims, verify their factual basis, identify any individuals involved, and submit findings directly to him for further action.

Mr. Nkansah’s legal team emphasized that his engagement with the NIB was a demonstration of full cooperation to aid the investigation, contrary to suggestions of arrest or non-compliance.
