Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has announced his intention to venture into agribusiness, specifically poultry farming and meat processing, drawing inspiration from the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ (Small Chicken) programme introduced by President John Dramani Mahama.
The multiple award-winning musician made the disclosure on Monday during a courtesy call at the headquarters of the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone, situated at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, said the government’s flagship poultry initiative has motivated him to diversify his investments beyond the entertainment industry into agriculture.
He praised the policy direction of the Mahama administration, describing ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ as a practical example of how effective governance can encourage private citizens, including creatives and entertainers, to invest in farming, generate employment opportunities, and strengthen national food security.
“I am inspired by what the President is doing with ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’. It shows that when government leads with the right policies, even people like us in entertainment can step into agriculture and make meaningful contributions,” Shatta Wale reportedly stated during the engagement.
The visit also served as a platform to discuss broader economic and cultural initiatives in the Gomoa Central area. Conversations touched on the upcoming Gomoa Easter Carnival, a major four-day street festival planned for the Easter season.
The carnival is expected to bring together masqueraders, jama groups, street performers, food vendors, traditional rulers, and more than 25 performing artistes, with the aim of establishing Gomoa as a vibrant centre for culture, entertainment, and business.
Shatta Wale’s planned foray into poultry farming adds to a growing list of Ghanaian celebrities exploring opportunities in agriculture amid government efforts to boost the sector and reduce reliance on food imports.
