UK prosecutors charge Thomas Partey with fresh counts of rape

Ghanaian international and Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal player now faces accusations involving a fourth woman in total.

The new charges relate to alleged offences from 2020, which were first reported to police in August 2025 and followed a separate investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

Partey, who previously pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 13, 2026, for a first hearing on the fresh allegations.

The original charges, authorised in July 2025, stem from alleged incidents between 2021 and 2022. Partey denied all counts during his appearance at Southwark Crown Court in September last year.

His trial for those offences is scheduled to begin on November 2, 2026. Partey left Arsenal as a free agent at the end of June 2025, shortly after the initial charges became public, and subsequently joined Spanish La Liga side Villarreal on a contract with an option for extension.

He remains on conditional bail, which allows him to continue his professional football career. The bail conditions require him to notify police of any international travel at least 24 hours in advance and prohibit contact with the complainants.

Partey continues to be a key member of the Black Stars squad, with Ghana set to face England in the group stages of the FIFA World Cup in the United States on June 23.

The Black Stars midfielder has not commented publicly on the latest developments.
