Bekwai MP responds to Denyaseman Catholic SHS disaster with 100 bags of cement, other relief items

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has donated a substantial relief package to Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School following a devastating disaster that affected the school’s infrastructure.
The donation, presented on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, included 100 bags of cement, 10 packets of roofing sheets, and GH¢5,000 in cash to support immediate recovery efforts.
Accompanied by officials from the Bekwai Municipal Education Directorate, the MP visited the school to assess the damage firsthand and hand over the items to school authorities.
He acknowledged the long-standing infrastructure challenges faced by the school since 2010 and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting staff and students in overcoming the setback.
Notably, as of the time of the donation, neither the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) nor the Bekwai Municipal Assembly had visited the school or provided any form of assistance, despite the severity of the situation.
Ralph Poku-Adusei, leaving aside his busy parliamentary schedule, intervened promptly to deliver the relief, bypassing bureaucratic delays after witnessing the devastation firsthand.
He commended the dedication of the teachers, noting that they had personally funded the construction of a three-unit classroom block and the headmaster’s office in the absence of sufficient external support.
Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the headmaster expressed profound gratitude for the MP’s timely and generous intervention. He pointed out that, apart from a boys’ dormitory constructed in 2010, this marks the first major donation from a Member of Parliament to aid the school’s development and recovery.
School authorities have welcomed the relief package, describing it as a significant boost to their efforts to restore normalcy and continue delivering quality education to students.

A torrential downpour, accompanied by strong winds, on February 10, 2026, caused extensive damage, most notably at Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School (SHS) in Poano, where a classroom block partially collapsed.

Roofing sheets were ripped off, walls weakened, and debris scattered across the compound, destroying furniture, desks, books, and other learning materials. Residents described the scene as heartbreaking.’
