James Owusu declares bid for NPP–USA chairman, pledges renewal and unity

James Owusu, the current First Vice Chairman of NPP–USA, has officially declared his candidacy for the position of Branch Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s United States branch, promising renewal, unity and strengthened internal structures.

In a statement dated February 23, 2026, Mr Owusu said his decision was borne out of “profound humility and an unyielding love” for the party, describing leadership as a call to service rather than a title.

Mr Owusu brings more than two decades of party experience to the race. He previously served as NPP–USA National Youth Organiser and later as Chairman of the Cincinnati Chapter. He is also a former TESCON President of Koforidua Polytechnic (K Poly) and chaired the Coalition to Elect Mahamudu Bawumia (CEMAB–USA) in the United States.

Over the years, he noted, he has witnessed the sacrifices of party faithful who dedicate their time and resources to the NPP’s vision of a prosperous Ghana.

Outlining his motivation as “to serve, to unite, and to empower,” Mr Owusu said his candidacy is rooted in hope and action.

He stressed the need to rebuild trust, deepen transparency and restore what he described as the spirit of togetherness that once made NPP–USA a shining beacon of diaspora party activism.

A comprehensive manifesto detailing his policy direction is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.

He, however, highlighted key pillars of his agenda, including membership welfare and empowerment, unity and internal democracy, financial sustainability and transparency, and digital transformation to modernise branch operations.

Other priorities include strategic partnerships to enhance political relevance, youth and women’s empowerment under his “Obiaa wom bi” philosophy, and a strong commitment to accountability, integrity and good governance.

Mr Owusu appealed to members of NPP–USA to support his bid, emphasising that the branch is not merely a political structure but a family and a movement built on shared values.

“Together, we win. Together, we build. Together, we serve,” he stated, expressing confidence that under united leadership, the branch can strengthen its role in advancing the NPP’s ideals both in the diaspora and at home.
