A man has been arrested following the suspected killing of an unidentified woman believed to be his girlfriend at Bentum in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.
The suspect, identified as Horlali Alatusa, a spiritualist in his early 20s, was apprehended after authorities received a complaint from another farmer about a terrible stench emanating from his farmland.
On Tuesday, March 10, community members took the suspect to the farm and dug up a trench he had previously excavated, but they were unable to locate the body of the deceased. Residents later reported the matter to the police after noticing bloodstains in the area.
Further interviews revealed that the suspect confessed to the police and directed officers to the location where he had hidden the body.
Reports confirm that the police discovered the unidentified woman’s body with her head, both legs, and private parts mutilated.
Community members suspect the murder may have been committed for ritual purposes, as the suspect, Horlali Alatusa, is known to be a spiritualist.
Some eyewitnesses stated that they last saw the deceased with the suspect in the community on Sunday but did not see her again, raising suspicions of her possible murder.
The chief of the community, Nai Bentum, has called on the police to intensify operations in the area.
“We’ve all become terrified over these happenings and would like to call on the police to enhance their operations in this area. We’d also appeal to authorities to provide us with streetlights, particularly on the main road that leads to Krodua, to improve visibility,” he said.
The remains have been conveyed by the police, while the suspect remains in custody.
