A joint police operation has led to the arrest of two more suspects in the deadly armed robbery and murder at Fufulso Junction in the Savannah Region, bringing the total number of persons in custody to five.

The latest arrests follow an earlier swoop that netted three suspects on March 12, 2026. The operation was directed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who deployed a special team comprising officers from the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra.

The team was sent to support the Buipe District Police Command after the violent incident on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m.

According to police, six suspects—believed to be of Fulani extraction and including one female—stormed Golden Linq Ventures, a mobile money (MoMo) vending shop at the junction. Armed with AK-47 rifles concealed under long coats, the robbers opened fire during the attack, killing mobile money operator Mahama Majeed and another person. Reports from the initial incident also indicated injuries to bystanders or customers in the chaotic shooting.

The three suspects initially arrested were identified as Habibata Kojo, 29; Ibrahim Sumaila, 35; and Alhassan Yusif, about 40.

A subsequent search at the residence of suspect Dramani Imoro—one of the persons in custody—recovered several items linked to the crime. These included an unregistered Toyota VOXY vehicle allegedly purchased just 72 hours after the robbery, an unregistered Haojue motorbike, and two smartphones.

All suspects and recovered items remain in police custody to aid ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Police Service commended the officers involved for their swift response and efforts in apprehending the suspects so far.

“The police administration would like to commend all the officers for the swift response and the actions put in place to arrest the suspects,” the statement noted.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices still at large.

The police have appealed to the public, particularly residents of the Savannah Region, to provide any credible information on the whereabouts of those connected to the crime.

“The administration is also calling on the public, especially those within the Savannah Region area to volunteer information on the whereabouts of all those connected to this horrendous crime,” the police urged.
