The legal team of former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has confirmed plans to file an appeal today, March 17, 2026, at the Koforidua High Court challenging a three-week remand order issued by the Akropong Circuit Court.
Mr Blay was remanded into police custody on Monday, March 16, following his appearance before the Akropong Circuit Court in connection with an alleged land dispute at Kitase in the Eastern Region.
The matter is on the back of a complaint lodged by an individual claiming ownership of a parcel of land at Kitase, who accused Mr Blay of engaging in unlawful activities on the property.
Police subsequently invited the former NPP Chairman to assist with investigations. According to reports, Freddie Blay failed to appear in court during multiple hearings, prompting a judge to issue a warrant for his arrest.
After listening to preliminary submissions, the presiding judge ordered that Freddie Blay be remanded for three weeks into police custody to allow for further investigations into the complaint.
Reacting to the ruling, lead counsel for Mr Blay, Gregory Asiedu, described the remand order as unfortunate and unjustified, insisting that the decision did not reflect the circumstances of the case.
He expressed confidence that the High Court would carefully review the matter and grant the necessary relief to secure his client’s release on bail pending the conclusion of investigations and trial.
“The appeal will be filed at the High Court in Koforidua today,” Asiedu told journalists shortly after the proceedings at Akropong.
“We are seeking a review of the remand order and requesting bail for our client so he can continue to cooperate with the process while enjoying his liberty,” he added.
