CLOGSAG suspends nationwide strike

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has suspended its nationwide strike, with members directed to resume work on March 24, 2026.

This decision follows an appeal from the government for a 14-day period to address the union’s concerns regarding salary structure and conditions of service.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe announced the suspension after the National Executive Committee (NEC) reviewed the government’s request.
“The National Executive Committee of CLOGSAG has considered the government’s 14-day appeal to address concerns relating to our salary structure and conditions of service. EXCO has decided to suspend the nationwide strike. We are instructing our members to resume work by March 24, 2026,” he stated.
The industrial action, which commenced on March 9, 2026, was in protest over the government’s failure to fully implement a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that provides for a distinct salary structure for civil and local government workers.
Despite the suspension, CLOGSAG’s leadership has confirmed it will not appear before the National Labour Commission (NLC), citing ongoing legal proceedings against the Commission.
The strike had significantly disrupted operations at various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country.
The suspension is expected to restore normal public services, pending the outcome of negotiations within the two-week window granted by the union.
CLOGSAG has maintained that the action was necessary to press for equitable treatment and the fulfillment of agreed terms on pay and conditions for its members.
