Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a Kusasi chief at Asawase, which occurred in July 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Jamil Usman, also known as Babamu or Guru; Suleman Yasir Arafat, alias Obasanjo; and Ashiadu Sumbeida, also known as Eyeshadow.

Addressing the media in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said the suspects are being prepared for transfer to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations.

DCOP Nyaaba disclosed that a key suspect, Illiasu, also known as Abodam, is still at large. He appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest and assured that the police would act swiftly on credible leads.

During the operation that led to the arrests, the police recovered an arsenal of weapons, including two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition.

The Regional Commander emphasised that the arrests and the recovery of the firearms demonstrate the police service’s resolve to combat violent crime and illegal possession of weapons in the region.

DCOP Nyaaba expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the unwavering support provided to the operation. He also commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, while acknowledging the crucial role played by members of the public whose timely information contributed significantly to the success of the exercise.

The police have assured that investigations into the murder case are ongoing and that every effort will be made to bring all perpetrators to justice.
