The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has engaged with a group of unemployed persons with disabilities who visited the Ministry to demand employment opportunities.

The group, led by Mr. Gilbert Agyare, presented their concerns to the Minister.

Their visit follows an earlier engagement with the Ministry in February 2026, where they first met the Minister to discuss employment challenges and pathways for inclusion.

At the time, the Minister assured them of government’s commitment to addressing their concerns through coordinated actions involving key stakeholders.

Building on that earlier engagement, the Minister, during the latest meeting, reiterated that addressing unemployment among persons with disabilities requires a coordinated and data-driven approach.

She assured the group that their concerns remain a priority, stressing that the Ministry is committed to listening and responding appropriately.

Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey explained that since the initial meeting, the Ministry has initiated the collection of comprehensive data on persons with disabilities to better understand their skills, qualifications, and specific needs. She noted that this approach is necessary to ensure effective job matching.

Additionally, the Minister indicated that the data collection exercise, which initially focused on the group, has been expanded to include other disability groups nationwide to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

She emphasised that employment placement would be done in phases and coordinated across sectors.

While acknowledging the frustrations expressed by the group, the Minister noted that engagements have not ceased, indicating that ongoing processes are underway to address their concerns.

The meeting ended on a constructive note, with the Minister reaffirming her commitment to continued dialogue with relevant stakeholders and the implementation of practical interventions aimed at improving employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
