Three people have been confirmed dead while 20 others successfully rescued following the collapse of a four-storey building at Accra New Town on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The incident occurred at the premises of the Accra Newtown Experimental Basic School. The building, which was uncompleted and had stood for several years, was reportedly being used by Christian worshippers as a makeshift church for a Sunday service when it collapsed.

According to the latest update from the National Ambulance Service (NAS), a total of 23 persons have beee accounted for following the incident. Emergency teams, including ambulances and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), were swiftly deployed to the scene, with additional resources mobilised to support rescue and prehospital care efforts.

Through a coordinated multi-agency response, 20 casualties were evacuated from the rubble and transported to various health facilities for further treatment. The three confirmed fatalities had their remains handed over to the Police.

Nine patients were conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital, seven to the Police Hospital, three to the Ga North Municipal Hospital (GaNuba), and one to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). Further transfers are ongoing to ensure optimal care and effective case management.

Emergency teams remain actively engaged at the scene, working closely with partner agencies including the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support rescue efforts and account for all affected persons.
