The Ghana Police Service has interdicted five of its personnel after they were captured in viral videos allegedly engaging in misconduct and bringing the Service into disrepute.

One of the videos show the officers stopping illegal miners and allegedly demanding money instead of enforcing the law against illegal mining activities.

In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate on Monday, May 4, 2026, the Police Service said the five officers have been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for further investigation in line with internal disciplinary procedures.

“The Ghana Police Service has interdicted five (5) personnel sighted in viral videos engaging in acts that tend to put the name of the Service into disrepute,” the statement said.

The affected officers are Chief Inspector Matthew Blay, Chief Inspector Francis Arthur, Inspector Eric Osei of the Osu Police Station in Accra, Sergeant Amos Dery of the National Protection Unit, and Inspector Joseph Okyere Asabre of the Obuasi Police District.

The Service reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken after investigations are concluded.
