Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Alhaji Baba Jamal, has pledged GH¢5,000 to each trader affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Nima Market.
The Ayawaso East MP made the announcement after visiting the scene of the fire to assess the extent of damage and offer support to the victims.
Speaking to journalists, Baba Jamal expressed sympathy to the affected traders and announced his personal support to help them revive their businesses.
“I want to send my heartfelt sympathies to the people who have lost their wares, and also to all the people who are in this market,” he said.
He added: “A few people who have been affected, they have given me their list. And so on my own, I want to offer GH¢5,000 to each of the victims in the interim.”
Alhaji Baba Jamal commended the swift response by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance.
He, however, appealed to the government and President to support the construction of an ultra-modern market for the area to improve trading conditions and prevent future fire outbreaks.
“Seeing that this is a serious tragedy that has affected our people last night… I call on the government, our president, and the entire nation to come and assist in these difficult times,” the MP stated.
The fire, which occurred on Monday night, destroyed several stalls and wares belonging to traders at the popular Nima Market.
