Broadcaster and host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has disclosed that he personally lobbied former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his appointment as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Speaking on The Upside Down Show on Channel One TV on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Mr Adom-Otchere admitted that he directly approached the former president for the position after developing a keen interest in airport operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Yes, I did. I lobbied President Akufo-Addo for the job,” he said.
He explained that his interest stemmed from hands-on experience at the airport during the pandemic.
“During Covid, I had an opportunity to work at the airport, and it was there that I developed an interest in the operations of the airport,” he stated.
According to him, the opportunity arose after the then Board Chairman was appointed to a position at the Presidency. He then approached the former President directly.
“The then Board Chairman was given an appointment at the presidency, so I went to the former President and told him to look at the possibility for me. He smiled and said he would think about it,” he recounted.
“That was how I got the position. I enjoyed every bit of it,” he added.
Adom-Otchere’s tenure as GACL Board Chairman was however marked by public scrutiny, particularly over the controversial Christmas tree saga at Kotoka International Airport, which sparked widespread debate and allegations of financial mismanagement
