9-year-old boy dies after falling from dilapidated bridge at Kasoa 94

Residents of Kasoa 94 in the Awutu Senya East Municipality are in mourning following the tragic death of a nine-year-old schoolboy who fell from a deteriorated bridge in the community.

Mohammed Abdul Kadir reportedly lost his balance while attempting to cross the bridge and fell into the deep drain below. Despite desperate rescue efforts by residents, the boy could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has sparked fresh outrage over the poor state of infrastructure in the area, with many describing the bridge as a “death trap” that has endangered lives for several years.

According to eyewitnesses and residents, the structure serves as a critical access route for schoolchildren, traders, and daily commuters. Its weakened and damaged condition has been a long-standing concern, with several previous appeals to the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly for repairs yielding little or no response.

Community members have expressed deep frustration at what they term as official neglect, particularly regarding the safety of children who use the bridge on a daily basis.

Speaking to the media, some residents directly blamed the Assembly for failing to act on repeated complaints. They have called on the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, to personally intervene and ensure the immediate reconstruction of the bridge.

The grieving residents are also appealing to the government and relevant authorities to implement urgent safety measures before more lives are lost.

“Unless swift action is taken, this bridge will continue to claim lives,” one resident warned.
